Transition from an industrial society to a knowledge society has begun, and cities in Silicon Valley in the final stage of the industrial society a creator class was created in the United States. Creativity is the key in their activities which are developing creative cities. The knowledge society faces the challenge of how to create a ecreative milieuf which will induce activities of increasing number of people called the ecreator classf who possess certain types of occupation, lifestyle and inclination. This work explores the present state of some of the cities attracting attention as a ecreative cityf and examines potential national strategies for Japan.
