Sumaato Eijingu – Chiiki no Yaku ni Tachinagara Bokezuni Toshio Kasaneyou (Introduction to Smart Aging – Help Your Community and Get Old with All Your Smarts)
Supervised by IISE and published by NTT Publishing. Senior Research Fellow Kazuko Yuma wrote Chapter 1.
As the Japanese society ages rapidly, senior citizens need to help and support one another. Numerous examples illustrate how senior citizens can feel connected to their community and play roles in society, how they can live out their lives in health and happiness, and how they can maintain their own lifestyles in a familiar environment. Time is changing from the age of “successful aging”, which demanded that seniors to stay healthy and youthful forever, to the age of “smart aging” in which seniors accept physical and mental changes brought on by advancing years and age wisely according to those changes while living in their communities.
