The advancement of “informatization”, epitomized by the rapid expansion of the Internet, has had far-reaching effects on the world’s social and economic environment. Nations and societies alike today face the challenge to make significant changes in their ways of life and relationships to one another. The driving force for this evolution is the information and communication technology (ICT) which places ever-increasing importance on the information industry.

The Institute for International Socio-Economic Studies (IISE) examines and analyzes issues brought on by the fast-developing information society as well as future directions of this development from the perspectives of socio-economics, the ICT industry and markets. Our mission of these activities is to contribute to the sound development of our society with the promotion of intellectual exchanges through publication of the study results and the presentation of proposals based on them to relevant entities both at home and abroad.

The activities of the IISE include national and international collaborations and joint study projects with research institutions and eminent intellectuals in Japan, USA, China and many other countries around the world so as to widen the range of our research. Products of these research efforts are presented to the world through various symposiums, books and mass media.
