Fiscal 2002 U.S. Symposium
"The Future of the Mass Media in the High Tech Age in Japan and the United States"
A scene from the Symposium at the Japan Society
Our Institute launched the symposium at the Japan Society in New York on November 20, 2002.
The rapid spread of the Internet has a profound impact on all parts of society. In the world of journalism, the Internet is also being highlighted as one of the new media. The Internet is clearly beginning to influence the existing media. The symposium was an attempt to provide an opportunity for the experts from both countries to debate and present their views as specialists in the field on how the media will change.
The Symposium took place with Neil Budde, the editor of the Wall Street Journal's Interactive Edition, as our coordinator and with the participation of three panelists, namely, Joseph Kessler who is Manager of Technology Division of Webber Shandwick, the world's largest PR agency, Vincent Park who is Senior Vice President of Edge Communications, and Tsuruaki Yukawa who is Staff Writer at Jiji Press. The keynote speeches were followed by a very active debate.
