Institute for International Socio-Economic Studies together with The Center for Global Communications (GLOCOM), International University of Japan, held its New Year Seminar on "The Situation in Iraq and Japanese-US Relations" on January 29, 2003 and invited Professor Yoshihiro Tsurumi of The City University of New York to deliver a lecture. The topicality of this theme that arouses the greatest interest at present was no doubt a major factor for the large attendance. So heated was the debate that there was not enough time in the question and answer session to deal with all questions. The following overview gives some highlights of the seminar.
