Fiscal 2007 Japan-China Joint Research Project: “Japan-China Energy/Environment Risk Management – Final Study Session

January 25, 2008

The final study session under the joint research project between IISE and CICIR (China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations) was held in the International House, Lecture Hall of Japan. Energy and environment are currently the most urgent issues that need to be solved on a global scale and their magnitude of importance directly affects development, economic growth and security both in developed countries and developing countries. Security of energy and climate in particular is already becoming a primary theme of diplomatic strategies. This issue has become a huge challenge for China and Japan in terms of international relationships with territorial issues casting a shadow over it. In this fiscal year, our joint research focused on risk management regarding energy and environment from the perspective of a problem-oriented thinking.

In the final study session, Mr. Yang Mingjie, Assistant to the President, CICIR (China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations) and Mr. Tetsuro Goto, President of IISE, opened the session with their welcoming speeches, followed by the reports and discussions with the participating experts listed below.
