Fiscal 2009 Japan-China Joint Research Project: Internet Hegemony and Governance – Final Study Session
The final study session of this year’s Japan-China Joint Research Project was held on January 28, 2010 at the Shinagawa Intercity Renaissance Center of Tama University. The theme of the study was “Multipolarization of the Internet Hegemony” which incorporated the outcomes of other projects of IISE. The session was cosponsored by the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) and IISE with the cooperation of the New Institute for Social Knowledge and Collaboration: Kumon Center, Tama University, and support of the InfoSocionomics Society.
As the structure of the hegemony in the Internet society shifts from unipolar concentration in US to multipolarization in response to the trends developing in the international society, reports presented at the session focused on the current state and future directions of the Internet in US, China and Europe, trends in the Internet governance as well as the actual state in Islamic countries. Shedding light on the multipolarization of the Internet hegemony would be useful in exploring a future direction for the Internet governance in Japan.
