“Global Environment and Future of Mankind: Post-Kyoto Options”
Globalization Forum 2007 in Kyoto was held on November 15, 2007 at the Suzaku Campus of Ritsumeikan University, cosponsored by IISE, the International Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies (the Gorbachev Foundation), Ritsumeikan University and the Kyoto Shimbun Co., Ltd., under the topic ‘Global Environment and Future of Mankind: Post-Kyoto Options’. Mankind faces a serious risk of the disruption of sustainable development due to climate change triggered by global warming. With the commitment period for the reduction of greenhouse gases required by the Kyoto Protocol starting next year, lively discussions covered a wide range of perspectives, such as whether Japan and other industrialized nations were able to fulfill their commitments, and how political leadership should meet the challenge.
